The short version

Simple Tea Timer has no accounts, no signup and no database. We do not collect your name, your email address or anything you type. The timer runs entirely in your own browser. The one thing stored on your device is your light or dark theme preference. The advertising on this site is served by Google, and Google does use cookies — that section is below, in full.

What is stored on your device

We store a single value in your browser’s local storage: whether you chose the light or the dark theme. It never leaves your device, it is not a cookie, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data removes it, and the site works normally without it.

Your chosen tea, strength and countdown are held in memory only. They are gone the moment you close the tab.

Advertising

This site is free and is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. To do that, Google and its partners:

Google’s own explanation of this is at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can turn off personalised advertising for your Google account at My Ad Center, and opt out of third-party advertising cookies more broadly at aboutads.info or, in Europe, Your Online Choices. Ads will still appear — they will simply be less targeted.

Where the law requires consent before advertising cookies are set — the EEA, the UK and comparable jurisdictions — you are asked first, through a consent prompt, and you can change your answer at any time from the link in that prompt.

Analytics and server logs

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not identify you or follow you to other sites — it records the page you viewed, where you arrived from, your approximate country, and your device and browser type. There is no Google Analytics, no tracking pixel and no fingerprinting.

The hosting provider that serves this site also keeps ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period in order to operate the service and defend it against abuse. We do not use any of this to build a profile of you.

Children

This site is a kitchen tool for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK, California or another place with data protection law, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection over personal data held about you. Because we hold none, a request to us will usually be answered by pointing you to Google, who act as an independent controller for the advertising described above. We will help where we can — write to us at the address below.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be obvious rather than quiet.
