Privacy & Cookies

The short version

Simple Tea Timer has no accounts, no signup and no database. We do not collect your name, your email address or anything you type. The timer runs entirely in your own browser. Two things are stored on your device: your light or dark theme preference, and which chime you chose. There is no advertising on the site at present, and no advertising cookie is set.

What is stored on your device

We store two values in your browser’s local storage: whether you chose the light or the dark theme, and which chime the timer should play when a steep finishes — or that you turned the sound off. Neither leaves your device, neither is a cookie, and neither is sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data removes them, and the site works normally without them.

Your chosen tea, strength and countdown are held in memory only. They are gone the moment you close the tab.

Advertising

This site carries no advertising. No ad is served, no ad network runs any code here, and no advertising cookie is set on your device.

We may support the site with advertising through Google AdSense later. This page is generated from the same setting that switches that advertising on, so it will describe the advertising from the moment there is any to describe, rather than depending on someone remembering to update it. Where the law requires consent before advertising cookies are set — the EEA, the UK and comparable jurisdictions — you will be asked before any is set.

Analytics and server logs

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not identify you or follow you to other sites — it records the page you viewed, where you arrived from, your approximate country, and your device and browser type. There is no Google Analytics, no tracking pixel and no fingerprinting.

The hosting provider that serves this site also keeps ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period in order to operate the service and defend it against abuse. We do not use any of this to build a profile of you.

Children

This site is a kitchen tool for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK, California or another place with data protection law, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection over personal data held about you. We hold none — there is no account, no database and nothing that identifies you. The only third party involved is our hosting provider, which keeps the ordinary request logs described above. We will help where we can — write to us at the address below.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be obvious rather than quiet.
